Bo Håkansson is a professor of Electrical Engineering at the Chalmers University of Technology. He is the pioneering researcher in bone-anchored hearing implants. His work resulted in the translation and development of commercially available osseointegrated hearing aids that have positively impacted the lives of several thousands of people worldwide.

The appointment by the Board of the Sahlgrenska Academy is further motivated by the collaboration project with Integrum AB for the development of naturally controlled arm prostheses contributing to the development of the e-OPRA™ Implant System. This development has attracted considerable international attention and has put the Sahlgrenska Academy in the limelight.

The Board writes: „The research successes have meant an industrial expansion in the Gothenburg area with the companies Cochlear, Oticon Medical and Integrum, to name a few. The prerequisite for the translational research projects that have been developed in the field at the Sahlgrenska Academy is the close collaboration with Professor Bo Håkansson and Chalmers University of Technology. “
