Integrum provides implant technology to newly established Center for Bionics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Mölndal, Sweden, October 27th, 2022 – Integrum (publ) (Nasdaq First North Growth Market: INTEG B) today announced that the company will provide osseointegrated implant technology to the newly founded Yang Center for Bionics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US. Integrum’s OPRATM Implant System and e-OPRA will play a key role in the center’s research activities.

The recently founded Yang Center for Bionics was established through a donation to the MIT McGovern Institute from philanthropist Lisa Yang. Co-directed by professors Hugh Herr and Edward Boyden, the goal of the center is to develop and deploy enabling technologies that communicate directly with the nervous system to mitigate a broad range of disabilities. The bionic technologies will integrate human physiology with electromechanics.

Integrum’s bone-anchored implant systems, OPRATM and e-OPRATM, will be important assets for the researchers at the center. The OPRATM Implant System is the only FDA approved bone-anchored treatment system for major limb loss, and e-OPRATM is an upgrade of the system providing a brain-controlled robotic prosthesis. In e-OPRATM, the nerves and muscles are interfaced via neuromuscular electrodes to the prosthesis.

The Yang Center for Bionics will unite experts from three MIT schools, and center researchers will collaborate with clinical and surgical collaborators at Harvard Medical School.
