In April of this year, the Department of Orthopaedics at Rikshospitalet successfully performed its first surgeries using OPRATM Implant System in two patients with above-knee amputations. The first patient is now fully treated, and the department will expand its osseointegration program to include the OPRATM Implant System for artificial thumb replacement, adding to the current offering that includes artificial trans-femoral and trans-humeral replacement treatments.
“Rikshospitalet and professor Magne Røkkum have been very successful in introducing the use of OPRATM in clinical treatment of patients in Norway who require artificial limb replacement. We are also very happy that the department has now decided to expand their use of our technology portfolio to thumb amputations, and we expect Rikshospitalet to treat an increasing volume of eligible patients,” comments Professor Rickard Brånemark, CEO of Integrum.
Integrum’s OPRATM Implant System is a bone-anchored system based on osseointegration. As the prostheses are directly attached to the bone, the use of a socket is avoided, leading to fewer complications and better quality of life for the patient.
