Upper extremity amputees with an amputation below the elbow (also known as trans-radial amputation patients) who opt for bone-anchored prostheses solutions, have two implants placed in the residual limb. One implant is inserted into the radius and one implant into the ulna.
At this amputation level, bone-anchored prostheses have the potential to preserve the natural range of wrist motion and rotation. This is possible by enabling the radius and the ulna to move with respect to each other, whereas socket-suspended prostheses generally lock the forearm bones in one position. In this way, the bone-anchored prosthesis with the patented attachment device restores the full functionality of the original wrist joint.

The patented attachment device enables the safe and reliable connection to a commercial prosthesis, while supporting the complex dynamics of wrist rotation. Not only does this improve the performance of activities of daily living, but it also reduces compensatory shoulder movements that can lead to secondary health problems over time.
