- Non-invasive, smart electronic device that captures, processes, and decodes myoelectric signals to infer limb movements. Electrodes placed over the skin are used to capture muscular activity.
- The decoded phantom limb movements are visualized with a virtual limb on the screen connected to Neuromotus™, providing real-time feedback to the user.
- It is a tool to promote motor execution of the affected limb. Depending on the patient’s condition, the physician/therapist can use it for neuromuscular rehabilitation and pathological pain treatment.

Who can use Neuromotus™?
Neuromotus™ can be used by physiotherapists to help patients reduce phantom limb pain. The device is easy to use, and our physiotherapist at Integrum will help you get started with personal training if needed. Neuromotus™ can also be used directly by the patient in consultation with the therapist.

How does it work?
Neuromotus™ employs Augmented Reality and Machine Learning in a new way to treat phantom limb pain. Surface electrodes are placed on the stump along with a marker to provide information on motion intention and virtual limb location, respectively.
- Electrical muscle signals are sensed by the electrodes and decoded into movements by complex algorithms using artificial intelligence (AI).
- The patient can see themself on a screen, with a superimposed virtual limb, controlled using their own neural command in real-time.
- After 12 phantom motor execution therapy sessions, clinical studies showed that patients showed significant and clinically meaningful reductions in severity and frequency of phantom limb pain.

A recent single-group clinical trial has shown that Neuromotus™ reduced phantom limb pain by approximately 50% in chronic intractable sufferers. – –
- These patients had previously tried several clinically available treatments for an average of 10 years and experienced no relief.
- At the last treatment session with Neuromotus™, improvements were still observable in intensity, frequency, duration, and pain quality, indicating that more treatment sessions might further reduce pain.
- Furthermore, the improvements achieved with Neuromotus™ were still observable six months after treatment.
What is Phantom Limb Pain?
Phantom Limb Pain (PLP) is a common problem among amputees and can considerably affect their quality of life.
- Studies suggest that up to 80 percent of amputees develop PLP, and one-third of these are extremely bothered by it.
- Unfortunately, conventional therapies for treating phantom limb pain (e.g. mirror therapy, motor imagery, TENS) fall short of successfully treating this condition.
