Patient completes 20 year check up with OPRA™ Implant System

Erik Ax, 79 years old, is one of the earliest recipients of the OPRA™ Implant System. Erik is an above-knee amputee who was having several problems with his prosthetic socket. As a result, he sought out Integrum to receive an osseointegrated bone-anchored prosthesis. He had his osseointegration surgery in 1999 and is now having his implant evaluated at the 20th year mark.

Through his years with osseointegration, Erik has enjoyed an active lifestyle including horse-back riding, kayaking and bicycling. He continues to use his prosthesis for over 15 hours a day.

Erik works as a mechanical engineer and has proudly represented the OPRA™ Implant System all over the world. When asked on how he reflects on osseointegration at this milestone, Erik says ‘There is no doubt. Get it done! It is a life-changing treatment, not only for myself, but also for my family.’
